Resource directory

Domestic violence & survivor support resources

More than one in three women and one in seven men experience intimate partner violence in their lifetime. The hotlines, organizations, and state-by-state resources below were built by survivors, advocates, and clinicians who have spent decades working on exactly this — and they answer the phone.

If you are in immediate danger

Call 911. Police, fire, and EMS dispatch are the right call when someone is being hurt right now, when a weapon is involved, or when a child is at risk. The resources on this page are for everything else — safety planning, shelter, legal help, long-term support, and recovery.

Talk to someone now

Crisis hotlines — free, confidential, 24/7

Every line below is staffed by trained advocates. You can call anonymously, you don't need to be in immediate danger to use them, and you don't have to know what you want before you call.

When substance use is part of it

Substance use and domestic violence are entangled more often than either field talks about

Studies estimate that alcohol or other drugs are involved in roughly forty to sixty percent of reported intimate-partner-violence incidents. That number cuts in more than one direction. A partner's using can make abuse more frequent or more severe. A survivor may be using to get through fear, sleep, pain, or a body that does not feel safe. Sometimes both are true in the same household at the same time.

None of that means substances cause abuse. People who don't drink also abuse partners, and most people who drink don't. What it means is that for many survivors, getting safe and getting sober are the same question, and trying to solve them in isolation usually fails the way taking on a wildfire with one bucket fails. The clinical term for this is co-occurring or dual-diagnosis care — treating substance use and the mental-health weight of trauma, PTSD, depression, or anxiety in one program, not handing the client a referral list and hoping.

If that is the picture you're in — yours or someone you love — the resources above come first. Safety planning, shelter, legal help, advocacy. Treatment for substance use is a step you can take when you're ready, and Pinnacle Peak Recovery in Scottsdale is one option for dual-diagnosis residential care. There are many others; the SAMHSA national treatment locator lists every licensed provider in the country.
